UNDER THE SEA

Using Language A New Dimension of Life

(NSEFC Book 7 Unit3)

一.教学内容

本课内容是作者讲述她的潜水经历,让我们了解、欣赏美轮美奂的海底世界同时,也让我们接触到了许多描写海底美妙景色的形容词以及表达情绪的词组。

二.教材处理

本节课是这个单元的第五课时, 直接处理阅读文章的内容,获取、分析和处理信息,在后 面的讨论练习中实现有效输出。

三.教学目标

1. 语言知识目标:① 重点单词reflect, pure, aware, vivid, narrow, sharp, tasty, shallow

② 重点短语 be/become aware of, be scared to death

2. 语言技能目标:① 能把握阅读文章的篇章结构,提高获取、分析和处理信息的能力; ② 能有条理地描述事物和自如地表达情绪。

3. 情感态度目标:了解海洋生物及海底世界的奇妙景色,热爱和保护海洋生物。

4. 教学重点和难点:教学重点是了解文章主旨大意,把握重要细节,感受作者的情感。

教学难点是学会描述性词语的使用。

四.教学设计

1. 总体思路

通过本单元前面所学内容及电影Finding Nemo片段作为引入,激活学生对于海底世界的兴趣,为后面的教学做好铺垫。 然后通过设置不同的阅读任务,使学生更好的理解文章。首先,匹配文章各个段落描写的要点,从而培养学生学会快速获取信息、处理信息的能力。接着让学生在文中找出作者看到的海底生物并关注作者如何描述,了解文章主要细节信息,使学生对文章内容及语篇行文的特点有更加深刻的了解。这两个部分都由学生课前通过预习课文完成,课堂上直接就这两个部分进行提问及分析。 接着,通过朗读文章第一段和最后一段,讨论作者使用的不同情绪表达方式,使学生更好地感受并了解作者当时的情绪。设置情景进行角色扮演,使学生能充分利用所学内容, 在具体情景运用当中实现所学知识的有效输出,并同时训练他们的综合表达能力。最后,对课文的内容进行总结,有利于巩固本节课所学内容。 2. 教学过程 Stage 1 Lead-in

Step 1 Show the pictures of Old Tom and Nemo

Step 2 Let the students watch one part of Finding Nemo Stage 2 Reading

Step 1 Help the students get a general understanding of the passage. Task 1 Match each paragraph with the topic.

Task 2 Rewrite the title A New Dimension of Life

My wonderful/unforgettable/exciting experience of snorkeling on a coral reef

Step 2 Help the students appreciate how the author describes the creatures and expresses her feelings.

Task 3 Show the students some creatures that the author came across, ask them to read out the sentences of describing them and then focus on the adjectives she uses. Task 4 A competition between boys and girls

Find out the two groups of adjectives the author uses.

Task 5 Ask the students to read paragraph 1 and paragraph 6 aloud together. Raise the question: How did the author feel at that time?

Task 6 Play a short video about a scene of going on a roller coater ride, and then ask the students to express their feelings.

Stage 3 Discussion

Task 7 Situation: Last Saturday, the students went to Hong Kong Ocean Park. There, they saw various creatures including seahorse, sea star, dolphins, jellyfish …

Students in a group of four discuss how to describe the creatures in the photos and also share

the feelings when seeing these creatures,

Two of the students, the reporters from our school will carry out a task— interview the

students returning from Hong Kong Ocean Park . The rest of the students will be the interviewees. The two reporters will interview the students randomly after the discussion.

Learn to use the following expressions to express your feelings. ① It was a day of pure magic

Stage Summary

The teacher helps the students to sum up what they have learned in this period. 1. The author’s snorkeling experience

2. How to describe the creatures and express one’s feelings

3. Remind the students that the beauty under the sea is what we should cherish and protect.

Stage 5 Homework

1. Surf the Internet to find more information about the world under the sea; 2. Write a short passage, describing an unforgettable trip.
